Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) founder and chairman of the Congressional Social Work Caucus, will not run for reelection, according to this article in the Washington Post.

Towns, MSW, was an administrator at Beth Israel before entering politics. He has served 30 years in Congress.

In the article Towns, 77, gave no explanation for his decision not to run, saying he had discussions with his family about the matter over the past month.

Towns also said he strongly believes he would have won another term if he had run.

During his tenure Towns brought millions of dollars in improvements to his district, which includes the neighborhoods of Clinton Hill, Mill Basin, downtown Brooklyn, Boreum Hill and parts of Williamsburg.

Towns also said he fought corruption on Wall Street as chair of the Congressional Oversight Committee and helped bring healthcare to uninsured Americans.
