Oklahoma requiring drug tests for those seeking state aid

Families getting cash assistance from Oklahoma must pass a drug test, according to this article on the ABC Channel 8 website.

Social workers said the move will improve families, the article said.

A parent who tests positive will be removed from programs such as Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. Children will stay in the program but a relative will receive the benefit.

People who test positive for drugs could also receive free rehab, the article said.

“So in the long run, I do think it will be a benefit and it will help the parents become self reliant and productive members of society and that will only enrich lives and help the children,” said Toy O’Brien, of the Department of Human Services.
