Massachusetts is facing a record number of homeless families and Gov. Deval Patrick’s administraiton has proposed a plan to help address the crisis, according to this article in the Boston Globe.

Putting families in emergency shelters in hotel rooms can cost an average of $2,400 a month. So Patrick is looking at other options.

Under his proposal the state would hire 120 social workers,  housing specialists, and other contractors to use about a third of the state’s emergency assistance budget to help families avoid eviction or cover the cost of housing families in temporary apartments.  

SocialWorkersSpeak.org commends the Patrick administration is considering hiring social workers to help address the state’s homeless problem.
