  1. I believe they need to have a process for circumstances like this when the adoption does not work out. Children coming from Russian orphanages have often been severely traumatized and have emotional and behavioral problems. There needs to be some support for the adoptive parents to deal with these issues and if the child really is dangerous to himself or others, there needs to be a protocol to deal with that.

  2. Yes they should and I can’t understand why people are so into international adoptions when there are plenty of children in the U.S. who need good homes.

  3. I am with Shunta on both accounts. I’m still confused as to why they haven’t charged this “mother” with neglect for sending a 7 year old on and international flight alone.

  4. We need all three approaches-more adoption of American children of all races and ethnicities; more pre-placement study and post placement monitoring of international adoptions; and, a place for adoptive parents to find support for managing or, if absolutely necessary, compassionate placement of children who have been so damaged as infants and toddlers they cannot function in a family.

  5. Thanks Penny, well stated!

I agree there needs to be a process in place to assist families with the behavior of severely traumatized children and a protocol of handling. The adoptive mother must have been desparate!I agree there needs to be a process in place to assist families with the behavior of severely traumatized children and a protocol of handling. The adoptive mother must have been desperate!
