Human Trafficking Victim Helping Others

Theresa Flores

Theresa Flores was a teenager living in Michigan when she was blackmailed into become a sex slave, according to this article on Mlive.com.

Now Flores is a social worker who helps other young women who were victims of commercial sex exploitation.

“It also helped me heal,” she said of her decision to pursue a master’s degree in counseling education. “It gives me a purpose now.”

Social workers are battling human trafficking in the United States and around the world. NASW’s Human Rights and International Affairs division also issued this human trafficking report in 2006.
